Zip’s diner is the kind of place with a lot of “Norms.” Seemingly every person who walks in sits at the counter, already knows everyone else sitting at the counter, and the entire waitstaff. If it was a few miles deeper into the countryside, and not situated in a rather unattractive intersection of shuttered big box stores and gas stations in Dayville, it would be named a neighborhood favorite, people traveling back to Boston from Sharpe Hill would stop in for post wine-tasting waffles, and Yankee magazine would be doing a photo spread featuring the diner’s table-top jukeboxes juxtaposed with deep-yellow runny egg yolks and crisp hash browns. The food is good, the coffee is good and there’s always a booth available. Zip’s diner is a definite must-try the next time you’re in or around the Quiet Corner.
