For my birthday last fall my mom gave me tickets to see Anthony Bourdain and Eric Ripert at the Bushnell and the show was this past Friday night. I brought my friend Moriah and we were both curious as to how this would go, since we had also seen Ina Garten at the Bushnell together last month. Not that Ina could ever be considered underwhelming — especially when someone in the audience asked her, during the Q&A, if she regrets never having children and she answered “I like my life, bitch. Step off.” (she did not actually use the last three words) — but it just felt like the woman interviewing her didn’t put much thought into where she wanted the interview to go, so it was akin to watching an extended late night TV interview but less funny. Bourdain and Ripert obviously had a vision for what they wanted this show to be, and they really went there. I loved it.
Before the show we did Dish’s derby weekend deal which included an appetizer (pickled shrimp salad), entree (steak and lobster), and dessert (red velvet cake and a pecan pie) with some mint juleps.
On Saturday, well, I worked all day and then at 4 p.m. walked over to a Derby Party in my neighborhood (where, bonus, I ran into Kerri from Real Hartford). I took these pictures on the walk over and regretted that I had spent my previous 8 awake-hours at my desk.
