I really consider Labor Day to be the official end of summer, and so does everyone else in the Western Hemisphere, but technically last weekend was goodbye to all that. I love summer, but I really love fall (as you’ll hear ad nauseum over the next few weeks). We decided to end the season with an activity appropriate for both: dinner on the deck at Mike’s family home in Pomfret. We grilled steaks, drank some Sharpe Hill wine (out of solo cups, naturally) and Mike’s cousins brought some amazing beer from a brewery in Brooklyn, NY. I supplied the pumpkin ale. After dinner we made a fire in the chiminea and enjoyed one of the last times we will be outside after dark without needing a jacket until spring.
In three weeks we are planning to do it all again, this time with a bonfire.0
