A Visit to Averill Farm in Washington Depot

October 18, 2015 by Elizabeth Larkin Leave a Comment

If you thought picking apples and pumpkins in an orchard and then eating apple cider doughnuts and drinking apple cider were great, how about throwing some pizza in there too.

Yes, you can have that glorious experience at a farm in Washington Depot, Connecticut called Averill Farm.

When my friends Ari and Jackie visited from New York a few weeks back–back before  I adopted the cutest puppy ever and still had time for day trips–I was looking for a fall day trip that would involve all my favorite fall things: food, foliage and being outside. I found Averill Farm in Washington Depot a few while researching pick-your-own places in Litchfield County, because I’m always looking to go deep into the bowels of Litchfield County in the fall. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that they serve all the apple orchard basics: apple cider doughnuts, apple cider, apple butter, and one special addition: they serve pizza–in the apple orchard. Sold! You can go to pick-your-own or just shop and eat. We split three different pizzas with some apple cider and bought some apple cider doughnuts for the road. Very healthy, very autumn-in Connecticut. After the orchard we hit up Sunset Meadow Vineyard to complete our fall day trip in Litchfield County.
