I’ve done a lot of hiking recently because my friend Ellen was like, “Why don’t we make time to do this every weekend in the spring?” and I was like, “Duh.” So now I can actually do a list for you of some hikes in this area. Ellen and I both live in Hartford and we both have very demanding jobs, so as much as I’d love to travel to farer-flung parts of the state to hike on Sunday mornings, it has been easier to stay within 15 minutes of Hartford to hike. I promise I will do more day trips with hiking in the future, but right now, hiking and pancakes is what’s hitting the spot.
This is the gentlest and most genteel of all of the trails I’ve been on in Connecticut. Gorgeous meadows and very well marked trails.
Get ready for a heart-pumping first 1/2 mile and then it’s all beautiful views of the Farmington Valley. At the top you can get your culture on by touring the tower itself.
This is the longest of the three trails and showcases the most varied terrain and scenery. Treat yourself to a nice lunch or happy hour at Republic afterwards.
