When my friend and I visited the outlets in Manchester, VT, we eagerly asked the shopkeepers about a place to get a glass of champagne post-shopping, and none of the bars or restaurants within walking distance were going to fit our requirement. We specifically wanted a quaint New England inn, and were directed to the bar at the Dorset. As the only patrons (the restaurant was between lunch and dinner service at 3p.m. on a very chilly Saturday) the bartender happily poured us champagne and had time to tell us about that night’s activities at the inn: they were hosting a 20-person wedding that evening for a regular patron, someone most of the staff knew personally. This was the kind of place we were looking for, and the kind of inn we wish we lived right around the corner from, with locals and tourists coming together in a warm barroom.
