Mike and I went for a walk around his childhood home in the Abington section of Pomfret and stumbled across this small plot of land. It’s a little hilly cemetery. After doing some research, and reading this blog post about a man searching for his ancestors’ resting place, I am pretty sure it’s Grow Hill Cemetery, where the Grow family of Pomfret was laid to rest in the 1700s. Here’s a map. The Abington Congregational Church the author mentions is located at 542 Hampton Rd, Pomfret Center, CT 06259 between Duffy and Mashamoquet Roads, and I added in two really well known Pomfret destinations — The Vanilla Bean Cafe and Sharpe Hill Vineyard — for perspective.
If you’re into cemeteries (which I totally am) I recommend a walk down this road if you’re visiting the Quiet Corner.0
