It is the oldest public art museum in the United States and houses a diverse collection of over 50,000 works spanning over 5,000 years of history. If contemporary art is more your style, be sure to check out the Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury.This museum features a variety of rotating exhibitions that showcase the work of local and regional artists.

Built in 1796, this building served as the state's capitol until 1878 and is now a museum that showcases the history of Connecticut. For a taste of colonial life, head to the Noah Webster House & West Hartford Historical Society.This restored 18th-century home was once the residence of Noah Webster, the creator of the first American dictionary. Visitors can take a guided tour and learn about life in colonial New England.
