Welcome to a very girly and holiday edition of Field Notes. I’m home today preparing to host a few friends for New Year’s Eve — my first party in my new apartment! I hope you have a relaxing and refreshing start to the New Year. Let’s do this, 2013.
|| If you’re attending a holiday party, allow me to suggest you bake and bring these chocolate chip cookies as a hostess gift. They are so good no one will notice they are not the least bit holiday-themed. (See my entire list of hostess gift recommendations).
|| If you are shorter on time, I suggest a bottle of prosecco. I just stocked up a bunch from Maximum Beverage in West Hartford. Prosecco is less expensive than champagne, but just as bubbly and festive.
|| One of my favorite motivational science experts, Dr. Heidi Grant Halvorson, shelled out some dating advice. It’s scientifically approved, people. You can read my interview with her here: How to Get More Done with a Daily Routine.
|| This barely there lipstick and this barely-there nail polish are perfection, at least on a pasty-faced white lady like me. I’m a huge fan of makeup that is only slightly darker or pinker than your natural coloring.
|| In the Winter, I have to do less de-frizzing of my hair than I do in the summer. Thank you for that one small kindness, Mother Nature. I wash my hair every 2-3 days (using dry shampoo on the in-between days) and use my curling iron to make this ‘do. It works, and it holds up surprisingly well throughout the day. You can read about my summertime hair regimen here.0
